Complimentarity

(60cm h x 60cm w – Oil & Sand painting on Wood)

By Calvin McCoard

Complementarity illustrates 2 opposite pairs of ways of perceiving reality.  The lower blue circle represents a feeling of separateness from reality such as in the idea of an observer and a reality made of separate parts.  At the opposite side, reality is experienced as an indivisible whole where there is no separation between observer and observed. On the left-hand side the net flow of energy goes from reality to the experiencer signifying an experience or feeling of being at the mercy of reality and on the right-hand side, the net flow of energy is out towards reality signifying a strong creative flow of energy coming from the unique perspective into reality.  To truly know and appreciate either of these perspectives we need to experience the counterpart. Complimentarity was used on the cover of the illustrated book Return to the Absolute
